A Southern Rock Weekend!

Kicked it off at the free Duluth Summer Stage performance of the Atlanta Rythm Section!
They played all the hits; Imaginary Lover, Spooky, Not Gonna Let it Bother Me Tonight, etc... It was a real Champagne Jam!

Then last nite at Chastain for B.B. King and the Tedeschi Trucks Band.  What a show.  B.B. ambled out to join his excellent band in an eclectic set that ranged from When Love Comes to Town and Key To The Highway, to You Are My Sunshine and When the Saints Go Marching In.

Then it got really hot with the inredicble Tedeschi/Trucks Band.  This 11 piece juggernaut led by Susan's soulful singing and Derek's searing slide guitar played a rockin couple of hours.  Two drummers, a three piece horn section, backup singers, the whole enchilada of blues, funk, jazz and New Orleans style voodoo!

Back to Chastain this Friday for Foreigner and Night Ranger,  No rest for the wicked, see you at the show!

Motor City Madman in the ATL

Ted Nugent last nite at Centerstage in front of a packed house of very enthusiastic fans!
The Wango Tango man played a blistering set of classic rock, motown and the blues.  Interspersed between the songs were some absolutely hilarious and often horrifying rants that "Uncle Ted" is known for!  The man even petted his own onstage machine gun...

Duran Duran Rocks Chastain!

What a great nite at Chastain!  The rain went away and Duran Duran came to play! I think the band knew the new material threw them and the crowd off a little last year so this time they came to war.  Still played some great songs from All You Need is Now but this truly was a greatest hits extravaganza.  The brothers Taylor cranked the rythm section up to the max and the rest of the band followed.  Simon sang his butt off and as he reminded the crowd, this was their third show in little more than a year here, they truly love the ATL.
Here's the setlist:
Before the Rain
Planet Earth
A View to a Kill
All You Need Is Now
Being Followed
The Reflex
Safe
Union of the Snake
Girl Panic!
Save a Prayer
Notorious
White Lines (Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel cover)
Ordinary World
Hungry Like the Wolf
(Reach Up for the) Sunrise
Wild Boys / Relax (Frankie Goes to Hollywood cover)
Encore:
Girls on Film
Rio

Winding up the summer in style.  Next up for Rockman is Ted Nugent on Wednesday nite at Centerstage, should be loud!  Then Tedeschi/Trucks and B.B. King at Chastain next Sunday and Foreigner/Night Ranger at Chastain the Friday after that.  No rest for the wicked!  See you at the show...

So I lied...I did end up going to see KellyClarkson and The Fray at Verizon tonite. Very entertaining show. The Fray were quite good. If you heard their songs and told that they were from U2 or Coldplay you'd say they were hits. Very energetic set and a very pleasant suprise!
Kelly tore the joint up like she ususally did.  Played all the hits and rocked and rolled.  What a great voice with the personality to match!
Special thanks to the King of the Ticket brokers, my man Dr. Jimmy for the great seats.
Remember for the best seats it's jim@ticketplace.com!

As promised Little Feat on Friday nite,  The Variety Playhouse was sold out and the band delivered.  Two hours of the hits mixed in with some great jams.  Put them on your must see lists for next year!

That's it for me until Duran Duran two weeks from tonite.  If you have nver seen Kelly Clarkson I'd recommend going to see her this week at Verizon.  Great performer and Verison is a great place too, alos great ot take the kids there.  Clean and plentiful bathrooms and a really nice venue, enjoy!

Welcome to the Atlanta Rock Man's blog.

6 shows in 9 days, Hello from the Michael Phelps of rock concerts!

Little Feat tonite at the Variety playhouse, should be great and a cheap ticket, y'all come on down.

Lets go back over the last 9 days:

Cocker/Huey Lewis at Chastain: Good show.  Huey better as an opening act, forces him to play only the hits.  Cocker at 68 has lost a little off the fastball but still solid.  Great interpreter of the Beatles doing Come Together, Little Help and Bathroom Window.

Next nite Aerosmith/.Cheap Triick.  Great show.  Some of the dirty from Aerosmith rubbed off on Cheap Trick and the young Daxx Neilsen on drums really drove em.  Aerosmith, what can you say, a greatest hits smorgasbord, that train kept a rollin all nite long.  One two punch at Philips.

Last Saturday Lindsey Buckingham solo at Centerstage great as always, playing the leads over some tape loops.  Lookin out for love!

Onward to this week.  Yes and Procol Harum at Verizon, great show.  Gary Booker can still sing like the old devil he is and with an ending of Salty Dog, Whiter Shade of Pale and Conquisador it was like the old days. Yes totally blew it out of the park. Seen them 12 times since 72 and this was one of the best!  The new lead singer is awesome (sorry Benoit David, but John Davison is better) with an incredible set incuding America and Awaken.

Finally (for now of course) the Allman Brothers at Chastain.  A very difficult ticket, high demand and high prices.  Grabbed a last minute at the box office and it was worth every penny.  What a show!  Warren haynes played like Santana, the drummers rocked and Derek and Gregg sublime.  I would not miss any of their shows. Ended with Elizabeth Reed and Whipping Post, OMG!

Off to Little Feat tonite.  Look for my report.   Upcoming later this month: Duran Duran, Ted Nugent, B.B. King and Tedeschi/Trucks and closing the month with Night ranger and Foreigner.

And remember, for the best tickets it's my buddy jim@ticketplace.com!

See you at the show!
